Universal health coverage (UHC) means that everyone has access to the health care they need, whenever and wherever they need it, without financial hardship. This includes a wide range of essential health services, from health promotion to prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and palliative care. Countries experiencing rapid population growth have young populations that can promote economic growth and reduce poverty. However, to benefit from the demographic bonus, countries must invest in the health and well-being of their people to build human capital and promote inclusive growth. Improving reproductive health, mothers, newborns, children, and adolescents as well as overcoming mental health disorders are very important to achieve UHC. In realizing UHC, one of the significant steps that Indonesia has taken is to use the National Health Insurance which is an integration of various forms of health insurance that have been previously implemented.
Not only the government, the community must also play an active role in realizing UHC, especially for prospective medical personnel who will later become a part of Indonesia’s demographic bonus. Seeing this, SCOPE CIMSA Universitas Airlangga held an EXPECTO (Explore English with SCOPE Today) SCOPE CIMSA activity, Universitas Airlangga.
EXPECTO comes as a project including an online campaign series and main event. The online campaign series were held 2 times through social media such as Instagram, TikTok, and many more with engaged Media Partner to take part in this celebration. The main event was held online on 23 January 2022 in the form of an essay competition held online using ZOOM Teleconference Meeting, which consists of the presentation of the top 10 essays submitted and also the announcement of the winners. This essay competition has the theme “Accessibility Issues Surrounding Universal Health Coverage in Indonesia and Its Solution”. All essays, Powerpoint slides and presentations are in English. This can help participants and committees in honing their English skills.
Through this event, we hope that the entire EXPECTO events can provide many benefits to society so they are able to raise awareness and to support universal health care. This activity also supports the IFMSA “Health System” Program, SDG number 3 “Good Health and Well-being”, WHO Priorities “Health for All”, and IFMSA Global Priorities “Health Workforce”.
